Did you know that women in Marin will get the chance to participate in the Marin Women’s Study (MWS) at their next mammogram?

In the fall of 2006, the MWS began to enroll approximately 20,000 women. Participation is easy and involves filling out a questionnaire at the time of your mammography appointment. Some women will also be asked to donate saliva and blood samples that we will use for our study and also store in a databank for future research. Establishing a data bank of blood and saliva samples is one of the key points of our study. With the stored samples from the first phase of our study, we will be able to continue research when there have been further advances in science and technology. Storing these samples will allow us to do more research in the future as science and technology improve our understanding of the causes of breast cancer.

Even if you are not eligible to participate, help us spread the word about the Marin Women’s Study. Tell a friend. Call a sister. Email a coworker. Your support will make this study possible, and it can help shed light on the risk of breast cancer for generations to come.

Or simply support the women around you to participate and thank them for their important contribution. This study would not be possible without community support and participation.
